Ms. A.N.
Thank you for having me today!

Kazunari Horio
Could you please tell us about yourself and share a few stories from your time in school?

Ms. A.N.
In college, I studied marketing in the economics and business administration department. I was just an average student and, looking back, I wish I had paid more attention in class. It was during my senior year that I did a long-term internship at an IT company, and that's when my interest in the IT industry started to grow.

Kazunari Horio
If you liked IT, how come you ended up at Berkeley, a consulting firm?

Ms. A.N.
In my job hunting, I hadn't considered consulting at all. I had plans to join Hellonet, a group company, but during the final interview, the president and the head of the consulting division at the time invited me to join their newly launched consulting division. That's when I made the decision to enter the consulting industry.

Kazunari Horio
An interesting opportunity… Typically, if you're not interested in consulting, you might decline such an offer. So, what made you decide to join Hellonet? What drew you to the company?

Ms. A.N.
Venturing into business right after graduation is something you can only do in a startup. I felt excited to be offered such an opportunity. Being the kind of person who finds interest in unique experiences, I thought it would be fascinating, so I joined Hellonet. It felt like an adventure. The company's open culture, with easy access to the higher-ups like the president and other management members, appealed to me. I believed this environment would provide ample chances for younger employees to share their opinions with the leaders.

I see! Initially, the idea of starting a business seemed more intriguing than the appeal of consulting! I'm sure there were challenges from the startup phase until now, but let's be real, did you ever wish you had chosen the IT industry or a big company instead?

Ms. A.N.
Not at all. Sure, when we kicked off, we were facing constant losses and numerous challenges, making things really tough. If I had stuck around during those tough times, I might have questioned my decision and thought I should have joined a different company. However, now that we're turning a profit and shaping up as a consulting company, I'm happy to have been part of the business from its very start.

Kazunari Horio
Almost four years have passed. Has your perception of consulting shifted since you began working until now?

Ms. A.N.
When I started working here, my boss shared some valuable advice. He said, "Consultants might seem fancy, but the reality is they get into the nitty-gritty. As I became more experienced, I learned that it's not just about solving problems; understanding clients' feelings in everyday interactions is crucial. Now, I believe that gathering daily experiences is a significant aspect of the job.

Kazunari Horio
I used to have a fancy idea about my work too. I believe it's crucial to build up experience every day, regardless of your job. Can you tell me about the work and projects you've done at Berkeley?

Ms. A.N.
After my training, I jumped into a project promoting SDG for a construction company. Following that, I spent around six months supporting PMO for the deployment of inside sales at a branch office of a big precision equipment company. Currently, I've been working on a project supporting the implementation of RPA for a major telecommunications company as a PMO for about a year. Apart from the projects, I also had some valuable experiences outside, like being part of the website launch, creating internal rules, and figuring out workflow as Berkeley was setting up its own website!

Kazunari Horio
You were active in projects as a consultant and also contributed a lot to Berkeley! With all that experience, can you share the most rewarding and challenging parts of starting your career as a consultant right after graduating?

Ms. A.N.
Even though I wasn't a consultant, being part of a new business launch was a great experience for me as a recent graduate. I encountered various challenges during the startup, but it was valuable to witness firsthand how they swiftly dealt with issues, which is common in venture companies. On the flip side, the most challenging aspect was grasping and applying the standard practices and norms of consulting firms, as advised by my boss from a well-known consulting company. I had no prior consulting experience, and I hadn't even attended a briefing session... LOL.

Kazunari Horio
In your opinion, what makes consulting appealing?

Ms. A.N.
I work with clients in different industries, and each company's work atmosphere is unique, offering a lot of learning opportunities. Currently, I'm part of an RPA implementation project with a foreign vendor, so I communicate in English daily and have meetings and chats with people from the US and India. Dealing with various nationalities, cultures, and values can be confusing, but it's also thrilling.

Kazunari Horio
Working with clients from different industries is a great way to develop! What do you appreciate about being part of Berkeley?

Ms. A.N.
I don't think it's enough for a consultant to just follow the client's orders like "do this" or "fix this problem." It's crucial to bring my own value and meet the client's quality standards. That's why I make a conscious effort to take initiative in my work.

Kazunari Horio
It's great to be a consultant who thinks for themselves and takes action after considering what the client needs! Do you have any dreams or goals you'd like to achieve at Berkeley in the future?

Ms. A.N.
Personally, I want to work with different IT products. Berkeley is a digital transformation (DX) consulting business, so I aim to contribute to more than just Robotic Process Automation (RPA). I also want to be part of many projects quickly, but right now, I lack knowledge and skills to deliver results in a short time. My plan is to keep learning eagerly and gaining experience so that I can excel in any project.

Kazunari Horio
What does Ms. A.N., one of the founding members, anticipate from Berkeley in the future?

Ms. A.N.
In the past, we had a lot of experienced folks, but lately, we're seeing more young faces, making our organization more lively. Moving forward, I want us to grow even more as a flexible group where young people can contribute, alongside those unafraid of failure and ready to keep taking on new challenges!
