Mr. Y.T.
Thank you. I'm pleased to meet you today!

Kazunari Horio
Thank you as well. To get started, could you please share what you were doing from your student days until before joining Berkeley?

Mr. Y.T.
I stayed in my hometown of Sapporo until I graduated from university, where I continued to play soccer most of the time. I stopped playing soccer in my first year of university and started coaching and managing the club I was part of in elementary school. I was so busy coaching soccer and working part-time that I didn't really focus on my schoolwork. After finishing university, I landed a job at an IT company and relocated to Tokyo. I joined as an early employee in February after graduation and stayed with them for about five years. Initially, I was a programmer, testing functions and enhancing system performance. As I honed my skills, I transitioned into a system engineer role. In the final year, I served as an assistant to the project manager, handling IT consulting tasks.

Kazunari Horio
By luck and connections, you ended up working for an IT company in Tokyo! By the way, when you were job hunting as a new graduate, what kind of image did you have about consulting?

Mr. Y.T.
I had the image of "trendy" and "intense workload." Also, I thought it seemed like you could earn a lot of money ha-ha. I used to think that entering a consulting firm had a pretty high hurdle, but now it has become familiar.

Kazunari Horio
So you joined Berkeley and became a consultant! Were you actively looking for a new job in order to become a consultant?

Mr. Y.T.
The job at my previous company wasn't bad, so I registered on a job change website just in case. I decided to explore opportunities by talking to companies I found interesting in the scout emails I received. I specifically focused on the consulting industry. I also received a scout email from Berkeley, and we had a chat. The email mentioned a casual meeting, so I thought it would be about an overview of the company. But suddenly, it turned into what seemed like an Interview with Mr. Sumita, the company representative ha-ha.

Kazunari Horio
You must have a lot of questions to ask the company representative… What part of Berkeley appealed to you most?

Mr. Y.T.
It’s the people. representative Sumita was a cool and charismatic adult. What you want to do at work is important, but I believe that who you work with is even more important. I thought that working close to president Sumita would be a huge plus for me. I had a desire to witness the process of someone with passion creating a consulting firm from scratch, and now that the team is small, the opportunity to be one of the main members seemed appealing to me. While I understand that it may be challenging with a small team, I see it as a great opportunity to gain various experiences. I believe that the rewards and lessons learned from overcoming challenges will be significant, so I want to give my best effort in that aspect.

Kazunari Horio
So you were drawn to President Sumida's enthusiasm! Earlier, you mentioned that you were doing something close to IT consulting in your previous company. In working at Berkeley, what are the exciting aspects and concerns you have?

Mr. Y.T.
I'm excited to work with different people on various projects and clients. It'll be interesting to see how the company grows, especially since we're in a phase of expanding Berkeley. As a consultant, we're like partners with the client's management team, so having good knowledge and presentation skills is crucial for effective communication. The expectations are high, which makes me a bit nervous, but I see it as a challenge I need to tackle head-on.

Kazunari Horio
'I have to do it' is indeed an encouraging phrase! As you embark on your journey as a consultant, are there any values or principles that you want to prioritize in your work?

Mr. Y.T.
In my view, being a good consultant means understanding things from the client's point of view. While an external perspective can be useful at times, my focus is on solving the problems and challenges our clients face. Building meaningful connections and relationships with people is something I aim to emphasize in my work.

Kazunari Horio
Please tell us about your dream, Mr. Y.T!

Mr. Y.T.
My goal is to become a business owner by the age of 35. I don't have specific plans yet, but I aspire to be an entrepreneur and earn money. Consulting allows me to think from a business owner's perspective, absorbing knowledge and skills that align with my future dream. The added bonus is the opportunity to work with President Sumita.

Kazunari Horio
Finally, please describe yourself in a few words!

Mr. Y.T.
I want to be a cool person! I believe that without earning money and maintaining a good appearance, one can't be cool. So, I want to be stylish in every aspect!
