Mr. G.N.
I am pleased to meet you today!

Kazunari Horio
It is nice to meet you too! I have heard that you have a somewhat unique background. Could you tell me what you have been doing until now?

Mr. G.N.
During my time in university, I focused on studying in the School of Sports and Health Sciences, while also actively participating in handball. After graduating, I packed just a suitcase and went to Germany to play handball. I directly negotiated with the club team manager and was able to join the team. Initially, I played handball without pay, but with determination and hard work, I climbed the ranks and eventually secured a professional contract. However, I had to return to Japan about a year ago due to family reasons.

Kazunari Horio
Joining a professional handball team and taking the leap into an overseas team - what a courageous move. Did you not consider finding employment in Japan after graduating from university?

Mr. G.N.
When I was a student, my plan was to become a teacher, so I have a teaching license for health and physical education for middle and high school. However, I felt that pursuing a teaching career was too much of a safe choice, and I wanted to explore various options. That is why I decided to give handball a shot. Yet, I did not see myself playing handball forever. As I contemplated a second career, circumstances led me back to Japan for family reasons. It was then that I felt the desire to embark on something new. I felt like I had fully experienced handball. It was a valuable experience and a story worth sharing. (laughs)

Kazunari Horio
Switching from wanting to be a teacher to becoming a handball player is quite a surprising change! When you returned to Japan, did you start working for a company?

Mr. G.N.
Yes, I returned to Japan around a year ago and decided to aim to become a systems engineer. While I was in Germany, I noticed the popularity of rental scooters. It got me thinking about the appeal of a society where people and IT work together, and I wanted to contribute to creating systems that reflect this vision. After about three (3) months of schooling, I began working as a systems engineer, using programming languages like Java and JavaScript to create systems for workflows, applications, and other processes.

Kazunari Horio
So, your time in Germany influenced your decision to become a systems engineer! But what made you decide to switch careers after being a systems engineer for only about a year?

Mr. G.N.
Because of a merger between subsidiaries, things were slowing down at my workplace, and I was not comfortable with that. I prefer a fast-paced environment where I can both work and grow quickly, so I decided to explore new job opportunities. I wanted a job related to my previous one where I could talk with clients and solve problems, and that is when the idea of becoming a consultant crossed my mind. In my previous job, I spent too much time looking at my computer screen. (laughs)

Kazunari Horio
I see - you value speed! Was "speed" a key factor in your decision to join Berkeley?

Mr. G.N.
Absolutely! I was searching for a company that values speed, and I learned that there were enthusiastic young individuals working here. I thought it would be an environment where we could grow by challenging and learning from each other. I discovered Berkeley through a job portal, and I was expecting just a brief overview, but from the very first interview, I had the opportunity to speak directly with President Sumita. During the conversation, I learned about the importance of speed. With less work experience than others, I was eager to grow rapidly, and the shared commitment to quick growth led me to choose Berkeley. Moreover, one of the reasons why I decided to join Berkeley was because of President Sumita. Even though he is the President, he is not pretentious at all - he is an approachable and charismatic person.

Kazunari Horio
I can sense that speed is a crucial factor for you! As you step into the consulting world for the first time with Berkeley, what aspects are you excited or worried about?

Mr. G.N.
I am excited about the chance to learn and grow alongside everyone, even though I am starting from scratch. The training lead mentioned it took about six (6) months for them to settle in, and I found the speed of the training process intriguing. I am also eager to gain hands-on experience in this dynamic environment. On the flip side, I am a bit anxious because I need to learn the ropes from scratch. I do not want to be a burden to my more experienced colleagues, so I am planning to dedicate myself to daily learning to overcome my worries.

Kazunari Horio
Studying to overcome anxiety - that is a wonderful approach! You are going to work as a consultant from now on, but what are the things you want to value most while working?

Mr. G.N.
What I want to value most is the sense of speed. Equally important, I aim to build good communication with my clients and strive to earn their trust. Through this process, I aim to enhance my own value.

Kazunari Horio
Please tell us about your dreams!

Mr. G.N.
I want to earn around 20 million yen by the time I'm in my 30s! Someday, I hope to turn my hobbies like handball and traveling into a job.

Kazunari Horio
Finally, please describe yourself in one word!

Mr. G.N.
I am someone who wants to enjoy life! I have done various things, and I will continue to do more in the future!
